Blogline Prologue... Band Geek...

"What you're feeling is an URGE TO MARCH..." This is me circa 1988 donning my marching band outfit. I was a member of SASHS Senior High School marching band from my sophomore year, 1986 to my senior year, 1989. The instrument of choice? Sousaphone! The real MAN's instrument. Being in marching band, musicals, orchestra, chorus and band is what inspired me to write music whether professionally or just as a hobby. The recording and production aspect is something that takes years to perfect and I'm still learning to this day. Recording is a very challenging and exciting aspect of music considering the technology is constantly changing.

Unfortunately, the marching band outfits were rented and that means I can't use this type of uniform as a stage prop or for a SUB ONE photo session. Heck, I probably wouldn't even be able to fit into something like that now.

Blogline Prologue... High School Musical...

During high school I got involved with dramatics, music, and the arts. Here is a picture of my performance as Li'l Abner. I believe this performance was during my sophomore year in high school which was the Spring of 1987 if I'm not mistaken. Gotta love those overalls! If I remember correctly, the group of people behind me were doing some sort of crazy dance... CRAZY MAN, CRAZY!!

Blogline Prologue... Humble Beginnings...

Ah yes, here we see Thee Tiny Sub One Genius looking for an URGE TO SLAM or could it be that I'm jonesing for a piece of paper specifically since I have a crayon in my right hand? Could it be my first inspiration to sit down and write lyrics? Or crawl around and write lyrics? Who knows?

I'm thinking this is circa 1972, possibly during my first year of existence! Looks like I'm having fun, doesn't it?

Blogline Prologue... Family Influence...

This is where it all began. My Grandfather, Jerry Chandler (aka Jerry Booton) was a very accomplished musician who had a career playing theatres and night clubs in the Chicago, and East Dubuque, Illinois area. Jerry was also a co-developer for the Lowry Organ and hosted two radio programs on KDTH in Dubuque, Iowa.

The above photo is a promo card that would be distributed throughout the tri-state area for The Circle night club located in East Dubuque, IL. Granddad Chandler played the Hammond Organ exclusively at his gigs and was also known to produce his own recordings at home. That's right, it's in the genes!!

Special thanks to my father, Ronald Chandler, for further input on this blog entry.

2009? Where did it go?

The year is almost over! 2009 came and went in the blink of an eye. Before we come to the end of this year, there is one more month to deal with and that is the month of December.

I want to take advantage of the last month of this year and the last month of this decade to present a project called "The Blogline Endeavor." For each day during the month I will be posting archive material. This material will include works from my early days as D.H. Chandler (D. Chandler, or just DHC) to the Prismatic days and brand new material from SUB ONE. Some of you will hear and see stuff that's very familiar and not so familiar, cheesy, ridiculous and surprising.

I look forward to working on this project and stay tuned.

SUB ONE - Inner Nine

Inner Nine

I entered this song into the John Lennon Songwriting Contest back in 2007. Session I finalists were announced in August of that year and it turned out that I won first place finalist in the Electronic Category. More information on 2007 Session I Finalists can be viewed here --->CLICK HERE!<-----!! This was a rather exciting and proud moment for my songwriting career and the prizes I won were cool to boot! Yet it also came as a surprise since I considered this song one of my throw away or "filler" songs. I guess with Fergie, Bob Weir, Eminem, Barry Gibb and Yoko Ono rooting for you you can't go wrong!

SUB ONE Cover Songs Part 1...

I get an itching to perform various cover songs from time to time. Reaching all the way back to 1993, I have unearthed a few gems from the SUB ONE, Prismatic archives.

Love My Way

This is a song originally written by the 80's band, The Psychedelic Furs. I had programmed the various instrumental parts using my Yamaha PSR-500 Electronic Keyboard and recorded everything "open-air" using my Panasonic Stereo tape deck. There are some goofy doings at the end of this recording.

Crazy Motorcycle

Originally recorded by an obscure 80's metal band, Rogue Male, their sound was a cross between The Clash and Motorhead and their stage show looked like something from Mad Max. This song was meant to be included on a release entitled, CTRLALTDELETE, but was never released. It is now that I unearth this gem. Guest backing vocals are provided by Bro Magos and Chad Miller.

You've Got Another Thing Comin'

That's right, the power metal staple from the legendary Judas Priest. This was recorded for a cassette release entitled POOM! back in 1995. Recorded at Berks Street Studios in Philadelphia using the Yamaha PSR-500 and a Sanyo CD/Cassette deck.

SUB ONE - Not So Comical

NOT SO COMICAL

Written and Composed by D. Chandler and Performed by SUB ONE circa 2001. This was the original demo version of this song and later ended up on the Ghost of a Chance EP released in 2003. I was still honing my skills with computer based recording at this point and I had sequenced this song using Cakewalk Express for Windows which was just one of a few other audio based programs running on my Pentium 133 Desktop computer at the time. Not too bad for a white boy!

SUB ONE - Punk

PUNK by SUB ONE

Here's another ditty that's a bit more recent. 'Punk' - it's pretty self explanatory. A video for this song is in the works! Stay tuned!

SUB ONE - Ghost of a Chance

GHOST OF A CHANCE
Here's a blast from the past... 2002 to be exact. This was a song I wrote about an incident at work. Long story short, one of our typeset operators was receiving news that her sister had been diagnosed with cancer and became very upset. The office manager at work noticed she was crying and asked my supervisor why she was crying. Supervisor told OM that her sister was just diagnosed with cancer. Office manager sighs a breath of relief and tells my supervisor and I "Well that's good news, I thought you guys did something to her." and walks away to talk to his blonde haired bimbo who sits with him behind the counter at the office.
